IRIS

Iris. What a simple word. A simple, two syllable word that projects many things to many people. To some, Iris is the round color pigmented membrane surrounding the pupil of the eye. To others, especially gardeners, botanists and horticulturists, it is the large genus (Iris) of perennial plants of the iris family, with sword-shaped leaves and flamboyant flowers composed in threes, three upright petals called standards and three downward-extending sepals called falls, of widely varying color. The iris is the flower of the Home new flashcards my stuff log in account info study history my flashcards saved flashcards restricted card sets new flashcards card files clipboard log out search aging and memory and mild cognitive impairment flash cards study save to my flashcards offline study print export to file other activities play memory create card file append to card file card set properties title: aging and memory and mild cognitive impairment description: descriptions of the changes in memory associated with normal aging and mild cognitive impairment. The ability to encode, store and recall information is typically reduced in older adults, in addition, the decline in memory affects recent memory more than immediate or remote. Define superior aging this may be said to by enjoyed by rare individuals, it is defined as "peak performance" reached at some point during adulthood. generic low price viagra In age appropriate decline, scores are, what? They remain within the range that is normal for the age. generic viagra pills This is also called age-associated memory impairment, benign senescent forgetfulness, and age-associated cognitive decline. Someone is said to be exhibiting mild cognitive impairment if their scores are _____ _______ age adjusted norms on standardized tests but _____ ____ impairment. Significantly below, without adl in dementia, the deterioration interferes with memory and what? Activities of daily living (adl) neurons can grow to be as old as their "owner". pharmacy viagra What does this imply? fast shipping viagra Each neuron is exposed to the cumulative effects of biological wear and tear throughout life. overnight cheap viagra Maybe it's true, what doesn't kill ya makes you stronger? Aging depends on the interaction of what 3 variables? Time, dna (genetic background) and stochastic encounters with stress, hypertension, oxidation, trauma etc. Aging itself may not cause age-related changes, but may increase/decrease the likelihood of encountering them. cheap online sales viagra Increase it is difficult to differentiate the inevitable consequences of aging from the cumulative (but preventable) impact of ______ ______. Stochastic events. Doing so within the context of time is a very complex operation. True or false, normal aging is fairly consistent across individuals? False. Normal aging is characterized by a high level of interindividual variability. True or false. The rate of atrophy in the aging brain increases as we age. False-in the healthy aging brain (healthy being the operative word) the rate is consistent and healthy aging is associate with some loss of brain volume. True or false. "old" brains have lost a lot of neurons and myelination is almost completely halted by the 7th decade. False. The loss of neurons is not massive and cortical myelinations has been shown to increase in the 7th decade of life. generic viagra online fast shipping Does the "old" brain retain plasticity? Yes, there is considerable potential for structural plasticity (i see this as hope for all of us! ) yes-we do lose neurons, but there are still lots left. Changes often associated with aging may be the result of preventable stochastic events. Still-as an aging population we remain vulnerable to dementing processes/diseases other forms of mci exist, so mci emphasize memory loss is called ________ amnesic mci true or false. Individuals with a diagnosis of mci will have the same outcome. False. They won't necessarily have the same outcome because etiologies may be different (dlb, ftd, etc. ) mci evolves into _______ at the rate of _____ per year. Dementia; 10-15%. viagra without prescription Normal is 1-2% per year. Rapid decline is associated with presence of apoe4, atrophic hippocampi on mri. True or false. There is currently no known effective treatment of mci. True. But, cholinesterase inhibitors, anti-inflammatory agents and anti-oxidants (e. G. Vitamin e) theoretically make sense. Also used, nmda receptor antagonists. viagra without prescription Copyright â© 2001-2012 collective research api | news | about | help | terms of service | privacy policy. Botanists confirm that irises grew everywhere that these terms originated and lilies largely did not - especially in the Holy Land of King Solomon and biblical times. And we know that the earliest cultivated irises were grown about 7000 BC by the Egyptians.

Iris was also a Greek Goddess, a messenger of the gods and associated with the Rainbow. All the colors of the rainbow are represented in irises today except for true red. That is surely coming just as the iris has improved exponentially since the formation of the American Iris Society in 1920 (when some "old country" growers had said that irises [they used the colloquial "flags"] just couldn't be improved any more). Well, boy, have our imaginative hybridizers ever proved them wrong!

We developed this web site to educate folks on the tremendous variety and color combinations of today's irises. We want you to have fun looking at the pretty pictures and if you learn something along the way - great. Many of the pictures can be identified by placing your cursor on the image. You might want to visit some of the local gardens such as the Missouri Botanical Garden's fabulous iris garden. Or maybe one or more of the private and public iris gardens listed in the links. You might want to see one of our annual Iris Shows. If you want to join us as a member that information is here too. And if you can't find the answer to that one question about irises that has been nagging you, visit our Ask The Expert link. They might be able to point you in the right direction to identify Grandmother's old flags. Detailed information about iris types and iris culture are available for those who want to explore. Likewise iris history going back to the 1920s in the St. Louis area is here too. Iris awards? We have it covered. There is much more. So sit back and enjoy the ride in our wonderful Iris World.
